DFW

Client Description

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is the primary international airport serving the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex area. It is the largest hub for American Airlines, which is headquartered near the airport. 2016 was a record year for DFW, as the airport served 65,670,697 passengers. It is the third busiest airport in the world by aircraft movements and the eleventh busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic in 2016.

Challenge

DFW has been using Oracle Financials for their financial processing. However, the data management process that came with the software took several hours to complete and could only be processed overnight. The finance department needed a way to get the finance reports in a timely manner during the day after finance updates had occurred earlier the same day.

The Oracle Financial system is a vast network of interlaced data spread over hundreds of tables used by the application. The Oracle financial data management processes have complex logic that is used to produce the data needed for financial reporting. In addition to understanding and replicating the logic, the new system had to process the data in near real time.

Solution

The iOLAP Data Management Architects identified the logic used in the original data management processes and was able to adapt the logic in new data management processes that would update reporting data in an efficient manner each hour throughout the day.

Benefits

The DFW finance office management is now able to see the results of financial record changes shortly after they are made. As a result, they are able to better manage income, cash flow, and expenses on a daily basis resulting thousands of dollars in savings.
