Waste Management, Inc. provides waste management services including the collection, transfer, recycling, resource recovery, and disposal services, and operates waste-to-energy facilities. The Company serves municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential customers throughout North America.
Waste Management’s business units serve many pieces of the waste management chain including waste pickup and disposal, recycling programs, and treatments. Each of these units utilized stand-alone systems with very little integration between units. This made understanding customers and services across business units difficult to measure and serve consistently. Further, existing systems were woefully inadequate for reporting efficiency. Waste Management decided it best to build a customer-centric data warehouse to homogenize customer and enterprise data from across the enterprise and into a single, high-performance platform.
iOLAP assisted in every phase of this customer warehouse project which was implemented on Netezza. iOLAP business analysts worked with the business units to understand the locations and available customer data to generate source to target mapping documents. Additionally, iOLAP’s Netezza architects collaborated with Waste Management’s enterprise architects to build out the physical implementation on Netezza. iOLAP also provided a Netezza ELT integration team to build processes that pulled data from source systems onto Netezza.
Building a customer-centric warehouse on Netezza allowed Waste Management accurate customer data, faster report creation, customer segmentation, and selling efficiencies.
